Kate Bosworth seems to have a thing for two particular items lately – cable-knit sweaters and a sensible-looking brown purse. Take a look at these pictures and tell me what you think:

Well? What can you say about this fashionista’s latest style?

Honestly, I’m not too fond of the cable-knit sweaters, but she pulled those off nicely. Of course, that’s no surprise since she seems to have been born with coolness in her blood.

What I am bothered by, however, is that bag. I don’t mind its structured shape, but with its dark brown color, it looks a little too old-fashioned. I’d have appreciated it more if it were in a lighter or brighter color.

Kate’s bag is Vanessa Bruno’s Cabas box bag in brown. It looks quite understated, perhaps even familiar, especially with its dark brown color, but some of you ladies might appreciate this piece, so I thought it was worth the mention:

This bag is not available online yet. But if you’re in L.A., there’s a Vanessa Bruno store along Melrose Avenue where you can buy the bag. It will cost you $700.

Too much? You can always look for a cheaper substitute. A close copy will not be hard to find, given how classic the bag looks. You can try this Dooney & Bourke Portofino medium shopper for starters:

The Dooney & Bourke Portofino is a great alternative with its shape, color, and frame. It is made of genuine leather, but unlike the Vanessa Bruno bag, it will only cost you $221 at Zappos. Not bad, right?

If that’s still beyond your means, try this tote from Etienne Aigner:
